§ 54. Purchase, operation of electric plant.

  • The mayor and city council of the City of Shelby are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to buy, maintain and operate an electric plant or other plant for the purpose of furnishing light to the inhabitants of said city. And said city council is empowered to contract with any electric light company or other light company, now existing or which may hereafter be organized or formed, to furnish lights for the streets and public buildings of said city and may pay such price therefor as they may deem advisable.

    Editor's note— Section 54 of the 1901 Charter was amended by Public-Local Laws of 1941, ch. 362, section 2, by adding a former provision beginning, "Provided the City of Shelby in the construction of electric lines…" and ending "…provided the facilities meet with the standard specifications of the city distributive system."
